The ultimate superstore!

Metro, Walmart, Provigo, Maxi, Marche vegetarian, IGA… ?! where should I get my groceries ???? It can be very challenging for many newcomers to choose where they should or should not, do their groceries but worry no more. Today I will break down 6 grocery stores that I have been shopping from since the day that I came to Canada for you. Remember that all the information is based on my own experiences and no real research or figures will be used. At the end of the day, it is grocery and not rocket science.

Let's begin with Walmart, the American multinational retail corporation that won a lot of hearts over the years. As a Walmart associate, I can assure you that Walmart has one of the cheapest prices in town, trust me they are not paying me extra to say this. Also that there is a pharmacy section, a beauty product section, home furniture, and electronics. So Walmart is not your normal grocery store but the superstore that you need. However, I feel like that the fresh products such as fruits and vegetables are not so fresh and after 2 or 3 days in the fridge they all go bad. The bakery section doesn’t have the freshest bread and cakes as well and lots of items are refrigerated. Overall I give it a 7 out of 10.

Next up we have Maxi, one of my absolute favorites. When it comes to the best prices and biggest sales Maxi is always number one and compare to Walmart, the fresh products are much better. They also have the best sales when it comes to getting big packages of beer. You can also use your optimum card to get weekly points that you can redeem at the counter later so for me Maxi is a 9 out of 10.

Provigo is from the same company PC, just like Maxi but slightly with higher prices and that is why their fresh product is absolutely the best in town. The selection of meat from chicken to beef and pork and their seafood are always of the best quality ever and in so many different formats. Provigo is absolutely one of my favorite grocery stores and I give it an 8 out of 10. A little bit less than Maxi just because sometimes is a little bit more expensive and out of a student budget.

The ones that I try to avoid the most are IGA and metro. If you are living in budget-friendly expenses just like I try to avoid these two because you will end up spending money on the same products for exactly double the prices that you could get anywhere else. But if you are looking for a rare product, a good quality cheese, or … you must definitely check them out. I will not give them a score because I genuinely love my money and don’t feel like wasting it in here.

Last but not least is Marche vegetarian, and over the years it has definitively grown on me. Obviously, I do not recommend buying meat products from there since the name tells you about it all. The fruits and vegetables here are the best out of any other grocery and you can keep them in the fridge for at least two weeks and they will never go bad. But it is a very small store that does not provide many options so I give it an 8 out of 10.

So here was the list of all my favorite to least favorite grocery stores but you are wondering why I did not give any of the 10 and that’s why I keep the best for last. Are you ready? DRUM ROLL PLEASE ….. and 10 goes to FLIP! Yes, exactly, flip. Not the store but the application.

Remember to always check FLIP before heading to the store because it keeps you updated with all the latest sales and promotions so you will end up saving so much money and always buying the best products at the best prices. Flip also provides you with a section that you can save the items which you like and want to highlight for later. There is also a weekly flyer that comes out on Wednesday nights just before the weekly promotion starts the next day. So keep refreshing and keep an eye out there for the best prices that you can get. Before you even realized you had saved more than 100 dollars per month for your grocery.
